I've always been a sentimental guy. I hang onto and inevitably reflect back on memories and keepsakes whenever I have an idle day on my hands. I've also always been a people-watcher. Somehow it took me until 2012 to see the forest through the trees, in this case a forest of meticulously organized folders for every meaningful person in my life with all my favourite photos of them I'd gotten my hands on over the years, and realize I should take matters into my own hands.
While I've never had the raw talent for creating art from scratch that I've seen from some people I know, my strong understanding of the technicals of photography, the ability to be honest with myself, and a bit of luck and trail and error have led me to produce some photographs I'm truly proud of. Truthfully, I look for beautiful scenes other people create, knowingly or unknowingly, and just pinpoint the moment and the angle to capture it.
Photography is by far the most rewarding and fulfilling hobby I've ever pursued, and one I expect to enjoy for life.
I currently shoot with a Canon 7D Mark II DSLR, typically combined with several lenses:
- Tamron SP 70-200MM F/2.8 Di VC USD
- Sigma 18-35mm F/1.8 DC HSM | A
- Canon EF 50mm F/1.8 II
- Opteka 6.5mm F/3.5 Fisheye
Additionally I have a collection of four camera strobes, two light stands with umbrellas, a tripod, extension tubes, a 2X teleconverter, a remote shutter release, and a plain white backdrop with a supporting frame – enough equipment that there should be no excuses for missing a shot!
